The Lion King (musical)

The Lion King is a musical based on the 1994 Disney animated film with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice along with the musical score. Directed by Julie Taymor, the musical features actors in animal costumes as well as giant, hollow puppets.
The musical debuted July 8, 1997, in Minnesota at the Orpheum Theatre, and was an instant success before premiering on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater on October 15, 1997 in previews with the official opening on November 13, 1997.
In September 2014, The Lion King became the top-earning title in box-office history for both stage productions and films, surpassing the record previously held by Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, of which was the first to gross over $6 billion.
I've never seen this musical but I would love to see it someday. I know many people that have seen it and loved it, moreover, it is one of the most famous musicals throughout Spain. In Spain we can see it in Madrid, in the theatre "Lope de Vega". I am sure it is amazing!

Christmas Day

Many people in the United States celebrate Christmas Day on December 25. The day celebrates Jesus Christ's birth. It is often combined with customs from pre-Christian winter celebrations. Many people erect Christmas trees, decorate their homes, visit family or friends and exchange gifts.
People celebrate Christmas Day in many ways. In the days or even weeks before Christmas Day, many people decorate their homes and gardens with lights, Christmas trees and much more. It is common to organize a special meal, often consisting of turkey and a lot of other festive foods, for family or friends and exchange gifts with them. Children, in particular, often receive a lot of gifts from their parents and other relatives and the mythical figure Santa Claus. This has led to Christmas Day becoming an increasingly commercialized holiday, with a lot of families spending a large part of their income on gifts and food. Many Sunday schools, churches and communities organize special events. These can include decorating the neighborhood or a shopping mall, putting up a Christmas tree and planning a Nativity display, concert or performance. A lot of plays and songs have a aspect of Christmas as a theme. Some groups arrange meals, shelter or charitable projects for people without a home or with very little money.

Technology

Nowadays, young people are experts in all kinds of technologies such as phones, tablets, laptops, cameras… Moreover, are used increasingly social networks like Facebook (the most famous worldwide), Twitter, Instagram and others. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on the point of view from which we look.
The main advantage of social network is that young people can communicate with each other, they can forward messages, and even they can make friends from other parts of the world. Thanks to search engines, we can navigate websites to find what we are looking for, as online shopping, information about something, images and whatever we want. In addition, an advantage of the new generation gadgets such as phones or tablets is that we can take them everywhere because they are small and easy to transport. Young people love to take pictures, so digital camera phones make photos of better quality than before.
However, one drawback is that now young people stalk in Facebook and other social networks too much, attentive to what others are doing, which can become an obsession. Furthermore, they become addicted to social networks and electronic gadgets because it is what everybody uses today, and society makes you feel discriminated unless you have a late model mobile or Facebook account.

Space debris

Is the rubbish something good for us? From my viewpoint it is something bad for the planet because the excess of these substances can be perjudicial for people. In the space there are also rubbish, but in other form. We can find a lot of objects floating in the space without aim. Space debris is harmless in the space, but if it falls to the Earth, it could be dangerous. Space debris is all that floats in the space but that is useless.

Where does space debris come from? Much of the space debris are originated for the explosion of a rocket or satellites. Most of the time it is rocket components that have been separated from it during the spaceflight.

The amount of space debris is increasing day by day, so the concern is the damage that space debris could cause to the missions like the famous space station.

Scientists have created a plan to eliminate space debris. It is eliminating one by one the pieces floating in space with a laser to turn it into gas and that falls in the Earth.

In concluding, we have to take care if we find a strange object on the ground that could come from the space. Space debris is very dangerous because it can  hit or hurt us. It is difficult to know when an object will fall in the Earth, but the meteorologists are always studying these phenomenons.

Paris, a beautiful place

The best place all over the world that I will visit in the future is Paris. If you want to go to spend the holidays in a place with beautiful scenery, you should visit this city.
It’s the most popular tourist destination in the world and I would catch a flight for the first time and go there. You can go sightseeing like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Pantheon, the Arch of Triumph, etc.
Without doubt the most prominent monument is the Eiffel Tower, an iron structure that measure three hundred meters and it was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris. From atop of this building we have terrific views. It’s located in the Campus Martius and it’s the symbol of France and his capital.
We also found the Pantheon, which was the first great monument of the city, or the Palace of Versailles, one of the most famous palaces in the world where the end of the First world War was signed.
As for the gastronomy, we can mention some of the main dishes like onion soup, duck a l’orange and the famous Ratatouille. As dessert we can mention the pain et confiture and you can’t miss the petits fours, small cakes. So I recommend everyone to visit this beautiful city, where it’s impossible to get bored.

My 18th birthday

Last Tuesday, 27th October, it was my 18th birthday. I had really excited because it's a special moment in my life and can be a very exciting period.
I celebrated my birthday last Saturday with my boyfriend. He came to get me at 8 o'clock in the evening, and we arrived to Valencia at 12 o'clock of the night. We let the suitcase in the hotel and we had dinner in a restaurant. Then, we went to a discotheque near the hotel. It was a fantastic place! At night it was a discotheque and during the day it was a museum of arts and sciences. It was a big place with DJ's who put music and it was decorated with tall palms and candles.
The next day in the morning we went to the Oceanographic, an enormous place where we can see many different types of animals, especially marine animals. I could see sharks, penguins, walruses, seals, stingrays and many types of fish. Also, in a part of Oceanographic there was a tunnel, where if you walked in and you looked to the sides or upward, you were surrounded by fish and sharks. Finally, we saw a dolphin show outdoors. They made pirouettes and incredible jumps.
This has been the best birthday of my life. I've had fun and I would repeat this day a thousand times without thinking.

The police arrive to the hotel and a policeman talks with him to convince him that he will not plunge down.
Now I'm going to write my own ending. Danny had planned everything. The policeman was the lover of this wife and Danny knew it. Therefore, Danny waits until the police come out to the ledge and then... He pushes him! The police falls down and he dies.

Problem-Solution Paragraph

Problem by Patricia:

It was born in West Africa and it spread to other countries in 2013. People had to face to the epidemic; thousand of people have died and many are at risk.

If I won the lottery...

If I won the lottery, I could do many things with the money. Part of the money I would give it to my parents so that they don't have to work to care for me. The rest of the money I would use to buy a new mobile phone or a luxurious car. I would buy a big house in the beach, opposite the sea. Thus, I could see and hear the sea every morning when I get up. Specially, I would travel a lot around the world. My dream is to go to Ireland on 17 March, the festivity of Saint Patrick. I would love to see the festivity in person, everybody dressed in green and the parades through the streets. It has to be amazing! Also, I would like to go to Japan. I think it's a place totally different to Spain, they have another culture, other customs, other food, other people... I would like to know Japan and live the experience. In addition, I would buy a field and I would host in it all abandoned animals. If I won the lottery, I could do many things with the money.

CINEMA: THE MAZE RUNNER

The last film that I've seen in the cinema is "The maze runner: the scorch trials", the second part of "The maze runner". These are two films that I really like and I'm going to have a short summary of both. This films are about a boy, Thomas, who wakes up in a strange place without remember his name or anything about his past. In these place there are more people that lives there and they help Thomas to live together with them. For that he should work and look for food. However, there is something that attracts attention of the boy: an enormous maze located there. People advises him don't enter there because nobody has found an exit and it's possible that he didn't go back. But in one occasion he enter into the maze with a partner and they find an exit. But then, they encounter the real world, a world where the sun has burned the earth and everything is destroyed. Also, a disease has infected everyone. Thomas and his friends are captured by people who say save them, but actually they want to kill them. For this reason they decide to escape in a very dangerous adventure. Finally, one of Thomas's friend joins to the side of evil and she tends a trap to her friends. But Thomas manages to make them withdraw although not forever. The history continues and we have to wait until the third film to be released.

Contrast paragraph

Seeing these two pictures, I can make a contrast between Johnny Rotten and Rostropovich, two musicians. In the photo, Johnny Rotten is a young man and apparently he plays punk music. He's a singer and he's accompained by another man who plays the electric guitar or the bass. Their clothes are very extravagant and baggy, typical of a punky. In contrast, Rostropovich is an old man who plays classical music. He plays the cello or something similar and he wears a shirt and tie, therefore, he looks like a serious person. In concluding, If we compare these two musicians, we can find great differences between them and the kind of music they plays.

The recycling.

I agree that recycling is a good option to protect the planet.
I think this is a topic very important nowadays which affects everyone. Recycling is a process used to convert waste into new products and reduce the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere, energy use, air pollution and water and consumption of new raw materials. People have to think about it and about the importance of separate the rubbish. We must throw away the rubbish in the correct rubbish bin because it helps the environment and we could have a cleaner planet.
Exists a rule called rule of the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle. The first consists of reducing the consumption of goods or energy to lessen the impact on the environment. The second consists of reuse an object to give it a second life. The latter is one of the most popular and is one of the most important parts to maintain a healthy environment.
So if you want to save the planet ... begins to recycle. Come on!

Halloween cupcakes.

This month is the festivity of Halloween, so I'm going to show you a recipe of cupcakes you can make for this day.
Ingredients:
125 g plain flour, 25 g cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 150 g caster sugar, 50 g butter, softened at room temperature, 1 free-range egg, 8 tbsp milk.
For the cream cheese icing: 50 g cream cheese, 25 g butter, softened at room temperature, 125 g icing sugar, sifted 1/2 tsp vanilla essence.
For the chocolate icing: 25 g icing sugar, 1 tbsp cocoa poder.

Preparation method:
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Line a muffin tray with 9 paper cases. Sift the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder into a bowl. Add the suggar and butter and beat the mixture together until well combined. Whisk in the egg and milk until the mixture is thick and smooth. Divide the mixture between the paper case and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until springy to the touch and skewer inserted into the middle of one of the cakes comes out clean. Set aside to cool on a wire rack.
For the cream cheese icing, beat the cream cheese and butter together in a bowl until well combined. Beat in the icing sugar and vanilla. Spoon the icing onto the cupcakes, leaving a small border around the edge. For the chocolate icing, sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder into a bowl. Stir in 2 tablespoons of water to form a smooth, thick icing.
Transfer the mixture to a piping bag with a fine nozzle. (Alternatively, spoon the mixture into the corner of a sandwich bag and snip off the corner, to form a small hole). Carefully pipe 3 concentric circles onto each cupcake. Run a toothpick from the centre to the edge of the cake, through each circle of icing, at 2cm/1 in intervals to create a cobweb effect. Set aside for 20 minutes to allow the icing to harden. And you're ready to eat!

A description of a person and peer response.

Peer response for: Patricia
By: María López Martínez

Dear Patricia, I see your description really well explained, it's easy to understand and it shows your apreciation for your brother. Nevertheless, I invite you to describe a little bit more about your thoughts and to do the description longer. I really like the structure you have used because it's really clear. In my point of view only need a concluding sentence. Well done!

Improved description:
I really admire my brother, He's a very kind and very nice person. When I have a problem, he's always ready to help me, doesn't matter the situation. He's a brave person, he isn't afraid of nothing. I consider him a great person, very nice and friendly with the people. I love him too much and I couldn't live without him. In my opinion, he's a person with whom you can talk about anything. In addition, he's often playing jokes to the people and he always spends practical jokes for me, some are funny and some not so. However, I can't be mad with him. Definitely, he's the best brother I ever had and I wouldn't change him for anything.

The feelings.

This picture is Guernica, a work of Pablo Picasso. When I see this picture, feelings like fear, pain and despair comes to my mind. In my opinion, it's a picture where appears the death, the sadness, the violence and the war, and I can see people who have died and people suffering from this loss. Also, there are animals disoriented. The picture makes me feel sad and confused. In conclusion, this painting was done by Picasso in a difficult and hard moment for the author, because it was painted during the Spanish Civil War.

My holidays.

I'm going to tell you all about my summer holidays this year. This was the best summer of my life.
I've enjoyed with the people I love most and also I've met new people. My grandma has a flat in Mazarrón and this summer I've gone a few times with my friends to stay there a few days. The flat is opposite the beach and from the balcony you can see the sea and the lighthouse. At night there are fantastic views!
In addition, some weekends we went to Port of Mazarrón and we went out to party there. One day there was a lot of waves and we got into the water. Suddenly, a giant wave gobbled us and it took us to the shore of the beach. It was very funny.
In August I went for a weekend with my boyfriend to Gandia. It's a very nice and very atmospheric place. We went to the beach and we played paddle ball, I'm very good at it! Later, we went for a walk to see the shops and at night we went to party and we danced. Before coming to the beach there was grass on the ground and people were sleeping in it, so we lay down a while and we stayed sleeping. Fortunately, nobody stole us anything.
Besides this I have done many more things and I've been to many places. Definitely, this was the best summer of my life and I would repeat a thousand times.

Poem: "Fear"

Fear of the lightnings and thunders.
Fear of darkness.
Fear of losing a friend.
Fear of being old.
Fear of losing the memory and not remember nothing.
Fear of unknown things.
Fear of breaking my heart.
Fear of dying.
Fear of falling in love.
Fear of living.
Fear of forgetting who I am.
Fear of solitude.
Fear of falling down.
Fear of losing what I love most.
Fear of letting down someone.
Fear of forgiving and not forgetting.
Fear before you say anything.
Fear of illness.
Fear of altitudes.
Fear this day will end without seeing a smile.
Fear of waking up to find that everything has been a dream.
Fear of not loving and fear of loving again to another person.
Fear that my dreams not be met.
Fear of not being forgiven.
Fear of pain.
Fear of the truth.
I've said that.

Brainstorming to help your imagination.

Brainstorming is an useful method for writing a text. This consists of writing whatever comes to your mind without thinking much. There are three types of brainstorming: making a list, freewriting and mapping. Making a list consists of start writing words that have some relationship to the topic you have chosen. In my opinion, this is the best type of brainstorming because you write a lot of words or sentences and they can help you to talk about many things related to your topic.
